Usually, one or the other partner is disagreeable so counselling is put off. The earlier couples get together and learn how to navigate their differences, create safety for open communication, and balance one another’s needs, the better the chances are for success.
The rate of divorce is alarming and some states in the US have made it mandatory for couples to take premarital counselling prior to being able to obtain a marriage license. It makes sense. There is a lot involved in obtaining a driver’s license, acquiring house renovation inspections or adopting a pet; so it seems reasonable that couples invest in the relationship they commit to stay in for the rest of their lives.
The marital relationship is the foundation on which committed individuals build successful lives.
